HEARD John Thomas Heard, III left this Earth and entered Heaven on January 7, 2016. He accepted Jesus as his Savior and was baptized on January 7, 2001. God had a plan as John became a faithful member of New Chapel Hill Baptist Church and enjoyed many longtime friendships with the men in his Adult 3 Men's Sunday School Class and with the many church members. John is survived by his daughter, Heidi Heard Crawford (husband Phillip), granddaughter, Allysa Crawford, and grandson, Austin Crawford, of Italy, Texas. He is also survived by his stepdaughter-in-law, Cindy Cheatham of West Monroe, Louisiana; two step-grandchildren, four step-great-grandsons, several nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law, Billye Ann Brown of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Vivian Muckleroy of West Monroe. He was predeceased by his wife of 17 years, Gerry Cheatham Heard; his father, John Thomas Heard, Jr. and mother, Beatrice Buckley Heard; and sisters, Jeanetta Brennan and Dahlia Hale. John was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, on October 18, 1939. He grew up in Bastrop, Louisiana, and graduated from Bastrop High School. During his lifetime he worked as a deputy sheriff and a contractor. John also served his country in the United States Army. Honoring John's wishes, there will be no services. John will be remembered by those who knew and loved him for his friendly mannerism and wit. John had a love for children with special needs and demonstrated that love through many acts of kindness. The family requests that memorials for John be made to New Chapel Hill Baptist Church, 61 New Chapel Hill Road, West Monroe, La. 71291 or Camp Journey of Katy, Texas, a program for children and young adults with autism at www.camp- journey.com. The family would like to thank Ridgecrest Community Care Center for the loving care he received while residing there. John loved the staff and called Ridgecrest his home.
