Tuesday, November 11, 2008, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe with Dr. Allison Moody officiating. Interment will follow in Mulhearn Memorial Park Mausoleum. Mrs. Hemphill died November 7 in Monroe at St Francis Hospital (North Monroe). She lived 102 glorious years in which her life was an inspiration to all who knew her. She was born in Monroe August 14, 1906. Her family moved to Shreveport at an early age where she attended Centenary College and met her beloved husband, George I. Hemphill. They moved to Monroe and operated the first cafeteria on DeSiard Street, Hemp's Cafeteria. Mrs. Hemphill was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and served in various capacities. She was an accomplished church organist, served as member of Ft. Mira Chapter, D.A.R. for many years, and the Monroe Garden Club. She is remembered for her joyful appreciation of life and her extraordinary kindness. She was preceded in death by her husband, George I. Hemphill; her brother, Lewis Henry; as well as, her "special" daughter, Elizabeth Peters. Special love and thanks to friend Polly Kincaid for her attention to Sweet Elizabeth, as well as, Sister Elizabeth at St. Joseph's. Survivors include her younger sister, Carolyn Henry Williams of San Antonio, TX; nephew, Walter Ben Williams of San Antonio; a special cousin, Bill Peters and his wife Cherie and Bill's children, Becky, Paul and Patti; nieces, Betty Hemphill Comegys of Laguna Niguel, CA, and Anne Hemphill Durham of Washougal, WA. Visitation at will be Tuesday from 9:00 A.M. until service time at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church maintenance fund or the charity of your choice.
