Curtis Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. Sonya Hemphill passed away Saturday, March 21, 2009. She was born on February 4, 1971 in Monroe, LA to George and Betty Perot. Sonya loved her family, especially her "boys", Bradley, Brock, and Brennan. She also loved her job, working with pre-k students at A.L. Smith Elementary School. Whenever she would see her students or former students in public, they always ran up for the hug they knew they would receive. She felt a great sense of pride in knowing that she had a positive impact on the lives of so many children. Sonya's favorite places were the beach, which she visited yearly with her friends and family, and her back porch, where she would sit and watch the bayou that she grew up on and loved. She will be greatly missed. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Yancy and Ethel Perot, and Leonard and Estelle Snell. Survivors include her husband, Jeff Hemphill; sons, Bradley Hemphill and Brock Hemphill; grandson, Brennan Hemphill; parents, George and Betty Perot; sister, Tressie Perot; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Jason Frith, Eric Cook, Kendall Cash, Wesley Yarbrough, Kevin Armstrong, and David Eley. The family requests all donations in memory of Sonya be made to a fund at Marion State Bank to purchase playground equipment for the pre-k playground at the new A.L. Smith Elementary School.
