M. on Thursday, June 19, 2014, at Weldon Baptist Church in Bernice, LA, with Bro. Harve Hoffman officiating. Interment will follow at Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home of Farmerville. Mildred was born April 15, 1924, and passed from this life on June 14, 2014, in Bernice, LA. She was a lifelong resident of Union Parish & a member of Weldon Baptist Church. Mildred graduated from Spearsville High School in 1942. After high school, the country was at war and she, like women of her generation, joined the war effort by working in the munitions plant in Minden, LA. She then attended Nursing School at St. Francis Hospital in Monroe, LA, and worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Ruston Hospital & later Bernice Hospital until retirement. Her hobbies included fishing, working in her yard, crocheting, and traveling. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry & Irma Byram; sister-in-law, Dorothy Nell Byram; nephew, James Keith Byram, Jr; and brother-in-law, Malvin Hendrix. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Max Travis Hendrix, of Bernice, LA; daughters, Wanda Gail Hendrix Freedman of Baton Rouge, LA, and Marsha Hendrix Walker and husband Randy of Bernice, LA; 3 grandchildren, Tiffany Elizabeth McGuire of New Orleans, LA, Jason Lee Walker and wife Stephanie of Bernice, LA, and Jamie Walker Smith and husband Bob of Hockley, TX; and 5 great- grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Keith Byram and wife, Rose, of Bernice, LA; a sister , Carolyn Byram of Pineville, LA; sister-in-law, Carleen Madix and husband, Keith, of Bernice, LA; and 6 nephews. Pallbearers will be Jason Walker, Bob Smith, Wayne Busby, Eddy Lee, Danny Lee and Ricky Rea. Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Weldon Baptist Church, Bernice, LA.
