A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 P. M. Saturday June 27, 2009 at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home on Highland Colony Parkway in Ridgeland, preceded by visitation at 12 Noon. Dr. Herrington was born in Yazoo County, MS, and was reared in Rayville, LA. He attended Baylor University, received his bachelor's degree from Northeast Louisiana University, received his master's and specialist degrees from Mississippi College, and received his doctorate in educational leadership from Mississippi State University. Dr. Herrington was an ordained deacon, a Sunday school teacher, and a tenor in the church choir at various Baptist churches. At the time of his death he was a member of First Baptist Church of Jackson. He was also a member of the Lion's Club International. In the late 1960's he served with the US Marine Corps in the Vietnam Conflict. He participated in the liberation of the ancient imperial city of Hue in the Tet Offensive. He was a career public school educator in the state of Mississippi. The first half of his career was spent as a school administrator in Yazoo, Hinds, and Humphreys Counties and Moss Point City Schools. The last half of his career was spent at the MS State Department of Education as a coordinator of training for school superintendants, principals, and school board members. He also served as an auditor for the accreditation of MS public schools. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Herbert Richard Herrington, Sr. and Rita Cue Martin Herrington, both of Bentonia ; and brother, Dr. Herbert Richard Herrington, II, of Nashville, TN. He is survived by his wife, Janice Gibson Herrington of Ridgeland; children, Mark, Paul, and Tracie; grandchildren, Will, Cole, Ana, Bella, Paula, Landon, Ashlei, Clay and Luke; and sisters, Katherine Owen of Ruston, LA, Ginger Davis of Clinton, and Victoria Goeders of West Monroe, LA.
