A celebration of her life will be held Monday, November 24, 2008 at 11:00 AM at College Place Baptist Church in Monroe, LA. Interment will follow in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Betty was born August 9, 1940, in Liberty Hill, Texas, and moved to Monroe, Louisiana a few years after her marriage to Charles Nolan "Sonny" Hill where she has resided for the past 50 years. Betty worked as a teacher for NLU and later for the Monroe City School System at Neville and Wossman for 30 plus years. She also worked for the State Department of Education as a Hearing Law Officer before retiring in 1998. Betty was a devoted member of College Place Baptist Church for 50 years, teaching the adult women's Sunday School class for the majority of those years. Betty will be remembered for her love and devotion to her family and her love of teaching. Her greatest legacy though is having instilled a love of her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ in her children, grandchildren, and an untold number of friends and family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvie and Froney Bird, a brother, and sister. Left to cherish her memory are: her husband of 51 years, "Sonny" Hill; her daughters, Cherrie Mattison, Terrie Nugent and her husband Eddie, Charlotte Hill Jackson and her husband Wade; and those most precious to her, her grandchildren, Megan Roshto, Emorie and Averie Nugent, Landon Jackson, and Matthew Mattison. She is also survived by her brother, Blackston Bird of Gatesville, TX; and 3 sisters, Ann McCloskey, Billie JoAnn Amidon and her husband Bud of Bertram, TX, and Adarene Wilson and her husband Joe of Killeen, TX; along with many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. Pallbearers will be Eddie Nugent, Scottie Nugent, Wade Jackson, David Hill, Greg Hill, Bert Chop, Joey Chop, and Trey Fluitt. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Hill and Camron Smith. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
