Officiating the service will be Rev. Jerry Hilbun, assisted by Rev. Rolly Walker, and Rev. Cathy Brewton. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Ruston under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Mrs. Hinton was born June 3, 1939 and passed away May 10, 2014. Roberta was born in Ruston, LA to Mary Olive Davis Green and Dr. Lucius Felton Green. She graduated from Ruston High School with honors and as a National Merit Scholar in 1957. She received a degree in Elementary Education from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX. While at SMU, Roberta was a member of Pi Beta Phi. She was awarded a Masters in Education from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, LA. Roberta taught school in Simsboro, Shreveport, and Ruston. Roberta was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her children: Jerald Robert Hinton of Dallas, TX and Mary Elizabeth Hinton Tipton and husband Alan Ray Tipton, Jr. of Shreveport, LA. Grandchildren: Hunter Green Hinton, Henry Daniel Hinton, Ansley Elizabeth Tipton, Neal Alan Tipton, Corinne Arabella Tipton, and Emily Elizabeth Hinton. Sister, Martha Charlotte Green Talley of Austin, TX, brother William Davis Green of Shreveport, LA and many cousins, nieces, nephews and beloved friends. Roberta was a lifelong resident of Ruston, LA, moving to Shreveport at the end of her life to be near family. She loved her hometown and was involved in many civic and social activities. She was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist church in Ruston and served her church through many volunteer position including Sunday School Teacher, Building Committee Member and Chairman of the Administrative Board. Roberta was passionate about the Louisiana Methodist Children's Home in Ruston and served as a Board Member for 33 years, including 4 years a Chairperson. In 2004, she was recognized by the United Methodist foundation for outstanding dedication and generous gifts to the children and families of the Children's Home in Ruston. She was a member of the Junior Guild of Ruston, serving as President from 1995-96. She served on the Board of Directors for the Lincoln Parish Museum and Historical Society and on the Civil Service Board for the City of Ruston. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a supporter of the Dixie Center for the Arts, Cedar Creek School, Louisiana Tech University, Friends of the Lincoln Parish Library and all things "Ruston". Roberta received the Betty Robbins award for her outstanding contributions the Ruston community. Roberta will be remember for her enormous love of family, friends, travel, contagious laughter, beautiful smile, easy going personality, intelligence and generosity. She especially loved spending summers at the family summer home in Bay View, Michigan, a Methodist Chautauqua. The family would like to thank the special women who lovingly cared for Roberta in her final years: Kathy Owen, Lauvata Drew, Hazel Gibson, Judy Preston, and Amelia Morris. Gratitude also goes to Dr. Craig Miller, the compassionate staff at The Savannah at the Oaks of Louisiana, St. Joseph's Hospice and the staff at Elite Medical. Pallbearers will be Daniel Hinton, Hunter Hinton, Mike Hoogland, Mark Richardson, Davis Talley, Granger Talley, Greg Talley, Alan Tipton, Neal Tipton and Jay Webb. Visitation will be Thursday May 15, 2014 from 4:00-6:00 PM at The Lincoln Parish Museum in Ruston, which was her childhood home.
