Woods Watson and Rev. Jesse Barnett officiating. Interment will be held in the Walnut Grove Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home. On February 26, 1917, Rufus Henry "Papaw" Hobbs was born to Lena Frith Hobbs and Isaac Henry Hobbs. He was one of nine children from Okaloosa. In 1942, Rufus was drafted into the 80th Infantry with the United States Army. In 1944, he received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart for his valor and sacrifice during WWII. Rufus met the love of his life, Margie Christeen Fallin. They married on April 4, 1947 and enjoyed sixty-five years of marriage. Rufus spent 10 years at the owner of Hobbs Air Conditioning and retired from United Gas Company in 1968. Rufus' life included his passion for gardening and loving his grandchildren. He had a smile for everyone, a joke to play on anyone, and the best tasting tomatoes in the state of Louisiana. He is preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers. Rufus is survived by his wife, Christeen Hobbs; children, Jerry and Pamela Hobbs of Knoxville, TN, Shirley and Steve Brooks of Lawrenceville, GA, Larry and Gail Hobbs of West Monroe, LA; grandchildren, Becca and Jess Barnett, Caroline and Brad Irving, Kyle Brooks and Zach Hobbs; two honorary grandchildren, Jacob and Amanda Hatten; and three great-grandchildren, Gracie, Joel, and Westley. Pallbearers will be Mr. Hobbs family members. Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of Drennan's Coffee Club and the Purple Heart Chapter 331. Visitation will be held from 9:00AM until service time Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe. The family would like to offer special thanks to Louisiana Hospice for the care of Mr. Hobbs. Memorials may be given to Louisiana Hospice Care or the Purple Heart Chapter 331.
