Visitation will be at Stricklin - King Funeral Home Wednesday, May 13 from 5:00P.M. - 7:00 P.M. with graveside services Thursday, April 14 at 11:00 A.M. at Dover Cemetery in Yazoo County, MS. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Melba, daughters and sons-in law, Benee and Mitch Tyler of Madison, Jennifer & Todd Yarbrough of Yazoo City, his mother; Thelma Hopson of Bentonia, brother; Dean Hopson of Bentonia, grandchildren; Heather Tyler, Troy Tyler, Ryan Hart, Victoria Yarbrough, Brandon Yarbrough and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Oscar Hopson. Richard was born in Bentonia, MS, but spent most of his life in Monroe, LA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and training bird dogs. He fell in love with the sport after he was given the opportunity to travel to Frobisher, Saskatchewan, Canada to work with Field Trail Hall of Famer, Jack Harper. He retired from T L James & Co. after 33 years of service and started his own company, H & L Equipment & Co., which was in business for over 20 years. In 2001, he moved back home to Mississippi where he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. The family would like to express a special thank-you for the loving care that was given by his home health nurses, Ella and Kayla; Hospice nurses, Megan, Debbie and Sharon; and the doctors, nurses and staff at G. V. "Sonny" Montgomery Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and a special care giver, Mario Belton, of The V A Medical Center.
