John (known as "JC" or "Jake" by many of his friends, relatives and co-workers) was 88 years old. John was born in Monroe, Louisiana on May 27, 1927 to Pearl Mills Howard and Isom Richard Howard. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and spent time in San Diego, California, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and the Philippines. He began working for Louisiana Power & Light in 1947; however, the highlight of those early years was his marriage to the love of his life, Alice Mae Collie. As newlyweds, they settled in Delhi, Louisiana. John and Alice were married for almost 52 years. After a 41-year career with LP&L, John retired to a life of crappie fishing and tinkering with MG sports cars. He remained active in the First Baptist Church of Delhi for the 50+ years he was there and was honored with both "Father of the Year" and "Family of the Year" recognitions. In 2007, John moved to Midland, Texas to be near his son, Wayne and in 2011 moved with Wayne's family from Midland to Spring, Texas where he lived with Wayne and Kathy. He was a member of The First Baptist Church The Woodlands. John was a wonderful father, grand-father and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, Isom and Pearl Howard; his wife, Alice Howard; and his son, Steve Howard. He is survived by his son, Wayne Howard and his wife Kathy of Spring, Texas; granddaughters, Kelley Irwin and her husband Jeremy of Denton, Texas, Sarah Raney and her husband Logan also of Denton, Texas; grandsons, James Howard of Jackson, Mississippi and Mark Howard of Ruston, Louisiana; great-grandsons, Micah Irwin, Jackson Raney, Theo Calvin Irwin (due in April), Josiah Kenneth Raney (due in July); and a quirky little Chihuahua named Cooper. John was loved and will be missed by many. He was a godly man. We will see him again. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 5 at First Baptist Church of Delhi with Rev. Eddie Fuller officiating. A graveside service will be held the same day at 4:00 PM at New Hope Cemetery in Lincoln Parish with Dr. Connie Ward officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 4 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Cox Funeral Home in Delhi.
