Jane was born July 10th 1931 on a cotton plantation in Transylvania, LA to Wade and Victoria Bradford McClendon. Left to cherish many wonderful memories is her husband of 63 years Bill Humble; two sons, Jeff Humble of West Monroe and Jim Humble and wife Phyllis Humble of Asheville, NC; grandchildren Melinda Carol Humble of Calhoun, Rachel Jane Humble of Brooklyn, NY, and Thomas Reed Humble of Raleigh, NC. Surviving brothers and sisters-in-law include: Bitsy and Alex Vardeman, Bob and Ron Humble, and Syble Humble. Jane's many nieces and nephews include: Ann Hardwick, Frank Hardwick, Brian Hardwick, Vickie Baxter, Ellen Breed, Bill Haile, Carole Zesch, Marsha Kothman, Lee Wade Bodenhamer, Sheryl McGlathery, Barry Humble, Pat Banister, Dr. Lee Humble, Laura Culpepper, Larry Humble, Linda Bush, Tommy Humble, Amy Lawler, Robbie Vardeman, Beth Vardeman James, Mary Ellen Poole, Dr. Carol Poole, and Lyndon Poole. Jane was also close to her surviving cousins; Billy McClendon, Alma Ray Patrick, John D.McClendon, and LoraineDeLoach, as well as Jan Bradford, Ben Bradford and Zelma Randazzo. Also special to her was a weekly prayer group composed of very special friends. Jane was preceded in death by sisters Mary Lee Bodenhamer, Fannie Lou Haile, Joanne Hardwick O'Neal, and brother Kelso McClendon. She was similarly preceded in death by sisters- in- law, Pauline McClendon, Betty Humble, Eleanor Poole, and Doris Humble, as well as brothers- in- law, Tom Humble, Jake Humble, and Oscar Poole. Jane lost her mother at an early age contributing to her independent and self- confident personality. She graduated from Calhoun High School and attended Louisiana Tech University and eventually becoming an avid fan of the Lady Techsters. After marrying the love of her life Bill, she spent the majority of her working career as an office manager at the LSU North Louisiana Experiment Station at Calhoun. Jane spent much of her free time, before and after retirement volunteering with various organizations including: the American Cancer Society, The Alzheimer's Society, and Ridgecrest Nursing Home. She survived a battle with breast cancer and became a mentor for other women facing similar circumstances. Much of her time was dedicated to her faith and church, Mt. Zion United Methodist Church formerly known as Calhoun United Methodist Church where she served as a role model for many young people - and where she also participated in choir, United Methodists Women, taught Sunday school, and was an MYF leader along with husband, Bill. Jane somehow found time to write articles as a community guest columnist for the Ouachita Citizen. Jane enjoyed cooking, traveling and shopping but, mostly loved spending time entertaining friends and family members, and giving back to others. Her home and heart were open to many family and friends' gatherings over the years. The family will receive friends and family at Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe Monday June 9th from 6:00P.M.until 8:00P.M. The funeral service is scheduled at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Calhoun on Tuesday June 10th at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Rich Cogburn officiating. Burial will follow at Calhoun Cemetery on Hwy. 151.
