CHARLES RICHARD "DICK" HUSTON Kilpatrick Funeral Home Monroe, LA A celebration of the life of Dr. Charles Richard "Dick" Huston, age 73, of Ruston will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, March 13, in the Sanctuary of Trinity United Methodist Church in Ruston, LA, with Dr. Andy Hurst officiating. Visitation will be held following the celebration in the Trinity Fellowship Hall. Dick was born September 12, 1935 in Cincinnati, OH and entered into a well- deserved rest on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 after fighting a long and courageous battle against cardiomyopathy. His unyielding strength and perseverance in overcoming so very many hurdles along the way will remain a source of encouragement for his family and friends. Dick was the son of the late Glenn Maurice & Marjorie Chickedantz Huston. He grew up in Washington, IN, and graduated from Washington High School in 1953. Dick married his high school sweetheart, Norma Lou Snider, in 1954. He graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Economics from Wabash College in Crawfordsville, IN, where he was also a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. He then went on to earn Masters and Doctorate degrees in business from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. Dick was a professor of marketing for 44 years. He retired from teaching in 2004 from Louisiana Tech University, where he had taught for 25 years. Dick turned his love for golf into a second career, serving as the Louisiana Tech golf coach for 10 years. He and his wife, Norma, have also owned the Hole- In-One Driving Range and Golf Shop since 1988, where he enjoyed giving lessons, repairing clubs and sharing his vast knowledge of his favorite sport. He also loved spending time fishing with Norma, their four daughters, and grandchildren. Dick was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a proud supporter of his alma maters, Wabash College and Indiana University. Dick leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 55 years, Norma Snider Huston of Ruston; four daughters Jan Douglas, and husband Gary of Germantown, TN; Cyndy Taylor, and husband Walker of Germantown, TN; Carrie Likley, and husband Steve of Memphis, TN; and Julie Graham, and husband Mark of Ruston; 11 grandchildren: Marnie Taylor Slattery, and husband Dr. Thomas Slattery; Paige, Carly & Kendall Taylor; Meredith & Elizabeth Douglas; Huston, Callie & Ellie Likley; Zoë & Mia Graham; one great-grandson, Walker Thomas Slattery; siblings, Tom Huston, Jon Huston, Jill Forbes, and husband David, all of Phoenix, AZ; sisters-in-law, Lorene Howerton of Ruston and Ruth McCracken of Evansville, IN; as well as many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. George Smith, Dr. Benson Grigsby, Dr. Scott Wiggins, Shelley Mercer, Lori Davis and Christy Davis for their compassionate and faithful care during this long battle. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church Building Fund. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day - and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing." 2 Timothy 4:5-8 File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/la/ouachita/obits/h/huston3175gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/lafiles/ File size: 3.9 Kb
