Bob Clanton officiating. Interment will follow in the Hasley Cemetery in West Monroe, LA. Dewey Wayne Jenkins or The Great One, as he lovingly referred to himself, left the world behind on May 19, 2017 to be received into his heavenly home. Anyone that had the pleasure of knowing him, was left with an impression like no other. He was the man that could make your heart smile in your darkest hour. His door was always open with food on the table, no matter who showed up there. He had a joke for every situation, no matter if the timing was appropriate. For example, he was a three-time transplant recipient, and after the second liver transplant in 1997, the kitchen served liver for lunch. He asked his doctor, if it was his liver or the one he rejected. His doctor knew then that he would be ok. He could lighten any situation that was for sure. Though his humor is what he is known by friends for, it was his ability to love that will be most missed by his family. He often apologized for not being able to provide riches of the world to his children as we were growing up. It wasn't until we were grown, we understood what he did to provide us with as much more valuable than anything money could buy. There was not a visit or call that didn't end with "I love you." He had the ability to empathize with any situation and let you know he genuinely cared. Dewey is preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Varnado; grandparents, Fred and Annie Waldrop; and grandson, Jordan Jenkins. Dewey left behind a family that will miss him more than all the riches in this world. His wife, Martha Hunt Jenkins; children and grandchildren, Josh Jenkins and wife, Melissa and their children, Aidyn, Ashton, and Kennedy; Jeannie Kelley and husband, Steven and their children, Andrea, Hannah, Jack, Kaden, and Isaac; Jonathan Jenkins and wife, Michelle and their children, Rylan, Briceson, and Braxli; Courtney Lee and husband, Brian and their children, Branson and Cason; former daughter-in-law, Lindsey Jenkins; brothers, Michael Jenkins, David Jones, Victor Varnado, Jr., and Fred Waldrop; sisters, Gwen Powe and husband, Kenny and Theresa Waldrop; special aunt, Marie Brister; special uncle, Frank O'Brien and wife, Jeannie; friends, Francis Broussard and Charles Cupit; along with a host of nieces and nephews.
