GEORGE JOHNSON

Funeral services for George Johnson, 76, of Gilbert will be held at 10 AM 
Tuesday, October 11, 2016 in Calvary Baptist Church in Gilbert with Dr. 
Bobby Ensminger and Rev. Kevin Bates officiating. Interment will follow in 
Oakley Cemetery in Gilbert under the direction Gill First National Funeral 
Home of Winnsboro. Visitation will be Monday from 5-8 PM at the funeral 
home.

He was born to Charlie Carlisle and Edna Gertrude Denman Johnson on August 
2, 1940 in Gilbert and passed from this world Friday, October 7, 2016 in 
Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria.

He was a devout Christian and faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church 
where he as a deacon. He was a veteran having served in the United States 
Army. He graduated from Gilbert High School in Gilbert and Northeast 
Louisiana University graduating with honors in Elementary Education and 
received a Master's in Education plus 30. He retired from the Franklin 
Parish School Board having served as Coach, Teacher and School Administrator 
for 36 years. He also worked as a Brick mason throughout Northeast Louisiana 
for over 40 years. As a civic and community leader in Gilbert, he served as 
an Alderman for the Village of Gilbert and volunteered countless hours with 
the local Dixie Youth Baseball league. He was passionate about the outdoors 
as was evident in his love of cattle ranching. He loved fox hunting and 
enjoyed spending time with his hunting buddies listening to the dogs run. 
Most of all he was a devout husband of 53 years and family man.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 53 years Helen Sewell Johnson of 
Gilbert; three sons Terrell Johnson and wife Terie of West Monroe, Bo 
Johnson and wife Lori of Gilbert and Craig Sewell Johnson of Columbia, SC; 
two sisters Frances Stevens of Waverly and Pauline Freeman and husband Jimmy 
of Winnsboro; one brother Charlie Johnson, Jr. and wife Geraldine of 
Mangham; nine grandchildren Courtney Watson and husband Ryan, Caleb Johnson, 
Cody Johnson and wife Tracie, Logan Johnson and wife Terah, Tanner Hendry, 
Raley Hendry, Randi Gwin, Savannah Williamson and husband Daniel and Nicole 
Parker; nine great grandchildren Jude, Max, Emma, Ruby, Dylan, Hannah, 
Kylie, Blayne and Joci; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many 
friends.

Pallbearers will be Todd Harris, Tyler Harris, Caleb Johnson, Cody Johnson, 
Logan Johnson, Jeremy Sewell, Justin Sewell and Ryan Watson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Lowe, Bud McFarland, Perry Parker, Jr., 
Danny Wayne Posey, Grady Stephens and deacons of Calvary Baptist Church.

The family request that any planned memorials be made to Calvary Baptist 
Church Building Fund
