He was born August 10, 1936, in Readhimer, Louisiana and went into the arms of his loving Father on De December 29, 2016, at 7p.m. Richard loved his God, his family, his church and hi his country. Richard was a veteran, beginning his career serving in the 101st Airborne, from 1957 to 1959, a paratrooper and Medical Support Specialist. He ran the lab and x-ray, at Hodge clinic, for 25 years. Elected Jackson Parish Coroner for 20 ye years and served several years as a Jackson Parish Sheriff's Deputy. He was el elected Sheriff of Jackson Parish from 2000 to 2004. He enjoyed a special de devotion to veterans and law enforcement officers. In his retirement, he de devoted his time with regular projects at church, serving God's people, taking ca care of his horses, dogs, working in his shop and tending his many plants and fl flowers. Richard was welcomed to Heaven by his mother and father, Joseph Sidney Johnson and Annie Davis Johnson, his sister Laura Catherine Dyball and mother and father-in-law Maude and Aaron Pitre. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Pitre Johnson, sons Jon Bradley Jo Johnson of Monroe, Jarod David Johnson of Quitman and Patrick Aaron Johnson and wi wife Nancy of West Monroe. Also surviving him is one granddaughter, Kristen Pa Paige Johnson, age 12, of West Monroe. Kristen was the light of his life who ga gave him many, many hours of joy. Being a strong family man, he valued the strength that those relationships bring. He felt very much part of his siblings lives: Helen Nails, Lottie and Curtis Dison, Harold Joe and Barbara Johnson of Saline, Carol and J. D. Ables of Jonesboro. In-laws Joan and Gene Jones of Pineville, Patsy and Ron Richmond of Baton Rouge and Jimmy (Bud) Pitre of Toledo Bend, treasured their time with Ri Richard very much. Richard cherished his many nieces and nephews and would do mo most anything for them. He dearly loved the many smiles they brought him. Pallbearers will be nephews: Reggie Ables, Jerry Dison, Jude Fattal, Kenny Johnson, Kevin Johnson, Greg Jones, Rusty Nails and Brett Pitre. Honorary pallbearers will be Nelson Moore, Mike Miles and members of his Sunday Scho School Class, Brothers in Christ. The family asks that any memorials considered be made to St. Jude Children's Re Research Hospital or Hodge Baptist Church. Visitation will be on Monday, January 2, 2017 from 5-8 p.m. at Hodge Baptist Ch Church. Services will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Hodge Baptist Church with Rev. Oda W. Roberts and Rev. Craig Stephens officiating. Burial will follow in the Fellowship Cemetery in Quitman, LA under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.
