Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery on South Grand St. in Monroe. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until service time at Kilpatrick Funeral Homes of Monroe. Mrs. Johnston was born August 13, 1919, in Monroe, LA. She went home to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ on August 15, 2012. She died peacefully at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Bishop Johnston, Jr.; her parents Melville Sanders Dixon and Josephine Hill Smith Dixon; her brothers, Melville Sanders (Sonny) Dixon and Joe Hart Dixon; her grandparents, Arthur Lee Smith and Mary Ann Yongue Smith; Charles F. Dixon and Jessie Lee Hart Dixon. Survivors include her daughter, Jo Elizabeth Johnston; son, John Bishop Johnston, III, and daughter-in-law, Jody; son, Jay Dixon Johnston and daughter- in-law, Jan; daughter, Mary Ann Currie, and son-in-law, Jackson; daughter, Nina Marie Pate, and son-in-law, George. Mary Ann, known as "MeMe" to her family, is also survived by the following grandchildren, Elizabeth Guerriero, Doll Holyfield, Kathy Patrick, Jodi B. Lyle, Jennifer Johnston, Mandy Williamson, Jessica Johnston, Mary Ann Johnston, John Bishop Currie, William Currie, Maggie Pate Barrett, and Meredith Pate. She is also survived by the following great grandchildren, Ashley Falgout, Allison Falgout, Lauren Creekmore, Madison Guerriero, Bailey Wells, Ainsley Holyfield, Andrew Williamson, Cole Williamson, Robert Williamson, Mary Amanda Williamson, Emily Patrick, India Patrick, Katherine Patrick, Abby Lyle, and Allison Lyle. Pallbearers will be Todd Williamson, Jeff Guerriero, Ken Vines, Bill Patrick, Matt Lyle, Harvey Perry, and Hank Biedenharn. Honorary pallbearers will be Junot Dixon, Joe Hart (JJ) Dixon, Fred Rosenfeld and Ralph Spiers. Mrs. Johnston was a life-long resident of Sterlington having moved to Monroe in her latter years. She greatly enjoyed visiting with her family and friends in Louisiana as well as entertaining them in Pensacola, Florida. She was a member of the Thursday Bridge Club, the Colonial Dames and the DAR. The family would like to thank her dear friend, Mary Frances Perry, her friends and doctors, Michael Hayward and David Raines, her niece, Jean Ann Taylor and her loving caregivers, Claire Rundell and Betty Faye Tullos. Thank you also to her granddaughter, Doll Vines for her care and attention. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church or charity of your choice.
