Virgil Harris, Rev. Curtis Harris, and Rev. Amos Heckard officiating. Interment will follow at Matthews Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro. Alton Johnston Jr. was born August 14, 1924, in Emmaus, TX, and passed away Saturday, January 22, 2011, at Charlyn Nursing Home in Winnsboro. He was a resident of Fort Necessity. "Fox" Johnston was a coach and teacher for 22 years and Principal for 12 years at Fort Necessity High School. He served on the Franklin Parish School Board for 7 years, and Chairman of the Board at Progressive Bank having also been a Founder of Progressive Bank. He was a member of the Boeuf Prairie Methodist Church, LA High School Athletic Association, and the V12 Marine Unit from LA Tech. He had attended Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, TX, graduated with a BS Degree from LA Tech in Ruston, LA, received his Masters Degree from Stephen F. Austin University of Nacogdoches, TX, and received his Plus 30 from NLU in Monroe, LA. He served in the United States Marines as a Captain having attended Officer Cadet Training School in Quantico, VA. He was preceded in Death by: Father-Alton Toby Johnston, Sr., Mother-Verna Beatrice (Bullock) Johnston, Wife-Faye Elizabeth (Waldrop) Johnston, Grandson- Mathew Joseph Johnston. Survivors include: 3 sons-Thomas Craig Johnston of Extension, LA, Kevin Clark Johnston of Extension, LA, Alton Charles Johnston and wife Robin of Extension, LA, 2 brothers-James Delbert Johnston of Nacogdoches, TX, Johnny Ray Johnston and wife Mary of Tyler, TX, 2 sisters-Emiline Maxine Robertson and husband Richard of Jacksonville, TX, Billie Sue Wallace and husband Robert of Frankston, TX, Special Daughter in law-Rene Johnston of Winnsboro, LA, Grandchildren-Alton "Andy" Johnston of Extension, LA Katherine "Katie" Elizabeth Johnston of Winnsboro, LA, expected grandson-Aaron Thomas Johnston, a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. The Pallbearers will be Jessie Plater, Bobby Wood, Kenneth Ray Heckard, Samuel Heckard, K. C. Heckard, and Curzensky Heckard. The Honorary Pallbearers will be Members of 1959 State Champion Basketball Team of Fort Necessity High School.
