Elsie was born September 6, 1926 in Eureka, Louisiana, to Horace and Mittie (Frost) Smith, the middle child of three. Her father, a railroad employee, moved the young family to a small farm in Cheniere, Louisiana where Elsie lived until she met and married Elster Jordan on July 10, 1946 at the age of 16. After working in various office jobs, Elsie started working at J.C. Penney Co. in Monroe, and retired from J.C. Penney in 1991. After retirement she and Elster moved out to land she owned near her childhood home and Elsie grew acres of flowers. Elster and Elsie made West Monroe, Louisiana their home until 2012, when they moved to Alliance, NE to be closer to their only daughter and their granddaughters. Elsie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathi (Jordan) and James Swanson, granddaughters Kirsten Swanson (Albuquerque, New Mexico) and Sydney Swanson (Denver, Colorado), sisters-in-law Pauline Antley (West Monroe, Louisiana), Marie Doherty (Lafayette, Louisiana), and Virginia Smith (Shreveport, Louisiana), and brother-in-law Addis Jordan (West Monroe, Louisiana), as well as numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Elster Jordan, her parents, her sister Martieal Willer and her brother Jay Smith. Her funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Monroe, Louisiana, with interment to follow at Aulds Chapel Church in Downsville, Louisiana. Visitation will be held from 5pm to 7pm on Monday, May 23, 2016 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Monroe, Louisiana. Memorials may be given to Aulds Chapel Bible Church Cemetery or plant a tree and flowers to honor Elsie's love of all things growing.
