Gertrude was born in Calhoun, Louisiana, and was the daughter of Lucelia Myles Facen and Anthony Geneva Facen from West Monroe, Louisiana. Her sister, Geneva Facen Gaston, from Grambling Louisiana, preceded her in death. Gertrude was a graduate of Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and obtained her Master's Degree from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. She began her professional career in the public school systems in northeast Louisiana and then moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she resided until her death. Gertrude was an associate professor and Human Services Department chair at Kennedy-King College in Chicago, Illinois, and a former consultant for National Office of Head Start. She was one of the 11 founders of the Monroe, Louisiana Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, was a member of The Links, Incorporated, and the Samaritans. Gertrude is survived by her daughters, Robbie Chrissandria Reeves Williams and Thalia Kelese Keeys-Bowers. She has four grandchildren: John Anthony Williams (Sarah), Michael Christopher Williams (Sarah), Julian Marsalis Bowers, Kelsie Caitlyn Bowers. Great grandchildren: Emma Kathlenn Williams (Michael), Isabel Yasmine Williams (John), Imani Tatiana Williams(John), Herlandie Joy Williams (John), Isaiah John Williams (John), Ashton Michael Williams (John). Cousins: Ora Sheares, Reuben Sheares, III, Bradley T. Sheares, Frank Myles. One niece, Angela Samuels, and several great-nieces, nephews and cousins. Graveside Interment service will be held at Hasley Cemetery, West Monroe, Louisiana on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 11:00a.m. Repast immediately following at Calvary Baptist Church, 201 S. Ninth Street, West Monroe, Louisiana.
