Werner Aswell officiating. Interment will follow at New Chapel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe. Troy was born on March 29, 1924 in Bryceland, LA to Daniel and Viola Kennedy during the Depression Era. Around the age of 18, he voluntarily joined the Air Force with only the clothes he was wearing and a pair of shoes that he painted black. During that time, he met and eventually married his sweetheart, Ester, on December 20, 1947. His military career took him to many locations, both in the United States (Dayton, OH; Waco, TX; Alexandria, LA) and abroad (Casablanca, Morocco; Taipei, Taiwan; and Thailand). He was a veteran of three wars, WWII, Korean War and Vietnam. He was very proud of his military career and being a graduate from LSU, a degree he earned between years of his active service. Troy had many colorful stories he enjoyed sharing about his time in the military, and began his second career as a real estate broker and also got into the rental property business in West Monroe, LA. He never "retired" from his second career and worked until the age of 91. He was well-liked and respected by his tenants, and one of his favorite parts of the day was driving to the "apartments" and visiting with them. He was an active member of New Chapel Hill Baptist Church for the past 20 years. Prior to that, he was a member and had the privilege of serving as a men's Sunday School teacher at Highland Baptist Church for several years. Troy was well loved and leaves behind many fond memories and friends at both churches. Over his lifetime, one of his favorite pastimes was collecting. He loved his collections and thoroughly enjoyed showing people and sharing stories behind them. Troy loved going to estate sales so he could find his next "treasure". Troy left this earth for his heavenly home on April 20, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Middleton and Viola Darnell Kennedy; his beloved wife of 60 years, Ester Dean Kennedy; granddaughter, Jessica Leigh Kellogg; brothers, Clifford Kennedy and Samuel Kennedy; and sisters, Marteal Paquin and Opal Cavin. Survivors include his three children, Susan Frank and husband John, Troy Kennedy, Jr. and wife Jane, and Ann Kellogg and husband Robert; three grandchildren, Abigail Hilderbrand, Jesse Darling and Troy "Trey" Kennedy, III; three great grandchildren, Alexa and Jaxon Hilderbrand, and River Darling; brothers, D.M. Kennedy and Harold Kennedy; sister, Lois Thompson; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Pallbearers will be Dallas Haynes, Gerald Don Coker, Billy Martin, Mel Shackelford, Ira Whittington and Irving Sills. In lieu of a visitation, a celebration of his life will be held at the New Chapel Hill Baptist Church Gym between 2:30 P.M. and 4:30 P.M. on Sunday immediately following the graveside service. Please join his family and friends for a time of fellowship and reminiscing memories of Troy. The Kennedy family would like to express a special thanks to the office of Dr. Sanjay Joseph for their compassionate care to Mr. Kennedy over the last several years. Memorials may be made to the New Chapel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery fund or the charity of your choice .
