KENNEDY Visitation services for Robert S. Kennedy will be held Wednesday, March 15th from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home, Monroe. A private graveside service will be held at Point-Wilhite Cemetery on Thursday, with Rev. Lynn Lynn Malone officiating. Robert (Bob) Kennedy was born in Point, LA on September 16, 1924 and passed aw away on Sunday, March 12, 2017. Bob grew up in Point, LA and graduated from Downsville School as valedictorian. He went on to attend LSU at the young age of 16. Shortly after he returned home from LSU, he studied at Louisiana Tech University where he was a part of the V-12 Navy Program, which lead him to attend Midshipman School at Notre Dame. While at Notre Dame he received his commission to the United States Navy. After the war, in 1947, Bob returned to Union Parish to finish his degree in Agriculture. One year later in 1948, Bob was elected to the Louisiana State Legislature at the age of 23. During this time Bob continued his service to his country where he later retired from the United States Navy as Lieutenant Commander. In 1952 Bob became a State Farm Agent in Monroe. Throughout his 65-year career he received many rewards and accolades for service to the company, most noted was the Insurance Man of the Year Award presented by Archie Manning. For the last 36 years he has worked side by side with his youngest son and best friend, Derek. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ada Taylor Kennedy and father, Robert Yancey Kennedy; brother Wade H. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Katie Sanford Kennedy, his children Robert Kennedy, Jr. of Baton Rouge, Jim, and wife Lou Kennedy of Colorado Springs, CO, and Derek and wife Heather Kennedy of Downsville; grandchildren, Robbie Kennedy, Katie Kennedy, William Kennedy, Sarah Kennedy, Maggie Kennedy, David Kennedy, Emily Kennedy, Morgan Kennedy, Derek Cattar Kennedy, Leslie Ke Kennedy, Mary Helen Kennedy, and Ada Jane Kennedy. Derek Cattar Kennedy, Brandon Henderson, Johnny Luffey Jr., Mark Alexander, Val Soloman Soloman, Wince Highshaw, Reese London and John Ensminger Sr. will serve as pallbearer pallbearers. The family would like to extend a thank you to Vicki Weeks and Irma Keaton in apprecia appreciation for their care of Bob in his last years. We would like to thank Senior C Senior Care Services of Monroe for the continued care of Dad over the last several several years.
