A courageous fighter to the very end, she now rests with the Lord. Marlene was born in Monroe, Louisiana on August 9, 1935. Child of Edward and Evelyn Ferris, she was raised on the family farm in Winnsboro Louisiana surrounded by extended family in the Wayside community. Marlene graduated from Winnsboro High School in 1953. Marlene married Charles Godfrey King also of Winnsboro in 1955. Soon after their union, they began a life together in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Charles began his career as a geologist for the Louisiana Geological Survey and Marlene took employment as financial secretary of the University Methodist Church. Charles and Marlene raised three children together. Their first child, Charles Godfrey King, Jr. (Chuck) was born on November 14, 1957 in Winnsboro, Louisiana. He and his wife, Carrie Thomas of Spearfish South Dakota, currently reside in Lead, South Dakota. Charles and Marlene's daughter, Stacey Marlene King, was born on December 11, 1959. She resides in the Lake Rosemound community of St. Francisville, Louisiana. Their youngest child, Carey Edward King was born August 31, 1966. He lives in Baton Rouge, Louisiana with his wife, Amber Marie Johnson of Hillsboro, Oregon and ten year old daughter Ella Carice King. Carey's eldest child, Dustin Edward King, lives in Pearland, Texas with his mother Jamie King Belinne. Marlene is preceded in death by her mother and father, husband, and brother Edward Lavone Ferris. She is survived by her children Chuck, Stacey and Carey, her grandchildren Ella and Dustin, daughter-in-laws Amber King and Carrie King, brother-in-law Clifford King of Lake St. John, Louisiana sisters-in-law Wanda Ferris of Winnsboro, Louisiana and Betty King of Lake St. John, Louisiana. Surviving nieces and nephews include Cheryl Henderson of Winnsboro, Connie Moore of Spark, Louisiana and Chris King of Sicily Island, Louisiana. Marlene spent most of her time with friends and family in the Lake Rosemound community with a close group of friends. Her greatest joy was tending her gardens and helping her daughter manage their acreage in the rolling Feliciana hills. Throughout Marlene's life, she was a constant source of light and love to all those around her. Even in the discomfort of her illness, her eyes were bright and a source of hope and inspiration. A memorial service will be held at St. Francisville United Methodist church on Saturday, September 6th at 5:00pm. Visitation will be at Gill's Funeral home in Winnsboro, Louisiana on Sunday, September 7th 5:30-7:30pm. Funeral will follow Monday, September 8th at 11:00am.
