KNIGHTEN Carl B. Knighten, Sr., age 85, lovingly known as "Pap" to his family, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on December 16, 2012, surrounded by his family. Mr. Knighten was born in Caldwell Parish on December 28, 1926 to William Riley and Maudie Mellie Knighten. Mr. Knighten first served in the United States Army and upon discharge, enlisted in the United States Navy. He served in World War II and the Korean War. Mr. Knighten worked for Riverwood, and retired after 44 years of service. Upon discharge from the Navy, he met and married the love of his life, Sadie Mae Ivey. They married and made their home in West Monroe, Louisiana. Mr. Knighten was a member of New Life Apostolic Church in West Monroe. Mr. Knighten was preceded in death by his parents, 5 sisters, and 4brothers. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sadie Knighten, son, Carl B. Knighten, Jr. (Aliece), daughters, Annette Herrington (Eddie), Debbi Culpepper (Phillip), all of West Monroe, and Tonia Williamson (Chet) of Taylorsville Mississippi, 13 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, 1 sister, Gloria Self, and brother Ed Knighten of Atlanta, Georgia, and brother William R. Knighten, Jr., of Mississippi, a host of nieces , nephews, cousins, friends and family. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 9:00 at Whites Ferry Road Church of Christ. The funeral will be held at Whites Ferry Road Church of Christ on Wendesday at 11:00 with Reverends Tommy McMurray, Jessie Louis Knighten, Curvin Self, Keith Self officiating. Interment will follow services at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Calhoun under the direction of Griffin funeral Home, West Monroe, LA. The family would like to thank the staff of The Oaks Nursing Home and St. Francis Specialty Hospital for the loving care of Mr, Knighten. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
