Melba was called home by our Heavenly Father on Friday, May 4, 2012 at Union General Hospital following a lengthy illness. She was born in Union Parish on August 21, 1928. She was a member of Conway Baptist Church in which her paternal grandfather helped to establish, served as the first deacon and also where her husband and son were both ordained as deacons. Even after she lost her vision, you could hear her lovely alto voice come thru on the chorus of old standards. Most days when she was still living at home, you could hear that same voice singing or whistling within a half mile of her house. Lovingly known to many as Melvy she always had a smile on her face, a twinkle in her eyes and something humorous to say. Between her and several scanners, she was the original neighborhood watch. Everyone loved her and checked in with her to find out the latest news. She was a wonderful cook and loved cooking for her family, friends and church dinners. She loved working outside in her flowerbeds and yard. Roosters and chickens were her passion, as you could see by her numerous what knots and such. She had a zest for life and it was a rare person that did not walk away from her with a smile. Most of all she loved her family and her loss will be deeply felt. Pallbearers are Nathan Wilson, Kenny Simpson, Van Johnston, Shawn Simpson, Jeremy Williams, and Charlie Albritton.
