LARY Funeral services for Mrs. Patricia M. Lary, 86, of Monroe, will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, November 16, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Allison Moody officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Mrs. Lary passed away Saturday, November 10, 2012. Pat was the thoughtful matriarch of the Lary Family, always calling or sending cards to her three children, five grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. Pat was a graduate of Byrd High School and Centenary College in Shreveport, LA. She met Harrell at Centenary and they married following World War II. In 1997 they celebrated their fiftieth anniversary. Pat was an elder at First Presbyterian Church in Monroe and was awarded an honorary life membership in Presbyterian Women in 1994. She was a member of Chapter AE of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Twentieth Century Book Club, Monroe Garden Club, Symphony League and Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity. She was also a member of several lineage societies including Fort Miro Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of American Colonists, Colonial Dames of the ZVII Century, Colonial Daughters of the Seventeenth Century, Daughters of the War of 1812 and Daughters of Colonial Wars. She was presented the Daughters of Liberty Medal by the Benjamin Tennille Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution, Monroe, LA, primarily for her interest in the flag of the United States of America. She has also been presented the Medal of Appreciation by the Glavez Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution, in Shreveport, LA, following presentation of a program on the flag of the USA. Pat has served the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as National Vice Chairman of the Flag of the USA, South Central Division. She was presently serving on the National level on the speaker's staff and on the state level has served as parliamentarian. She was Past Regent of Fort Miro Chapter, NSDAR. For Colonial Dames she has served as State Flag Chairman and is past president of Prairie De Canots Chapter. Pat has always been very patriotic and was grateful for the opportunity to be able to present information about the flag of the USA. Her interest included genealogy, photography, traveling, reading, needlework and bridge (she was a Gold Life Master in the American Contract Bridge League). Pat has spent most of her life as a homemaker/volunteer and sincerely believes the heritage of the past plants seeds for the future. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Harrell Lary; and daughter, Susan Lary Papa. She is survived by her son, Dr. Michael Lary and his wife Pam Bank Lary, as well as her daughter, Nancy Lary Jantz. Her five grandchildren and six great grandchildren will miss her kindness and exchanging Facebook messages with their always-in-the-know "Mimi". Pat, Mom, Mimi, no matter her name, if you knew Pat Lary, you knew her deep love of country. Pat was a patriot through and through. Her collection of all things red, white, and blue would always bring a smile to any visitor at her home. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. The Lary Family will be forever thankful for the loving friends who surrounded, encouraged and cared for Pat until the very end, including her caretaker, Barbara. You invested your lives in her life: driving her, taking her to play bridge, out to eat, and keeping her spirits up. We know she was richly blessed by each of you. Memoriums can be made to Pat's beloved First Presbyterian Church of Monroe or the American Cancer Society.
