Ricky Baker officiating. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00PM at Pine Grove Church Cemetery in Castor, LA under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home. Mrs. Alvis was born on September 27, 1929 in Robeline, LA and passed away on February 1, 2014 in West Monroe, LA. Mrs. Alvis graduated from Northwestern State University with a Bachelor's degree in Business. She later pursued her Master's degree plus 30 at Northeast Louisiana University. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Monroe. She was a teacher for 26 years when she retired from Southside High School at Louisiana Training Institute. Her passion was teaching children. After retirement, she was an auxiliary volunteer at Glenwood Hospital. She was a loving mother and grandmother who loved reading, traveling, and being with her family. We will miss her sense of humor and her laugh. She is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Marion B. Lawrence; parents, Mr. and Mrs. James A. Jordan; sisters, Sarah Elliott and Jimmie Clauder; brothers, Harvey Quentin Jordan, James B. Jordan, and Patrick Jordan. Survivors include her daughters, Judy Nagel and husband David, Jayne Tubb and husband Daniel; sons, Marion A. Lawrence, Paul Lawrence and wife Wendy, Michael Lawrence and wife Melanie; 17 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be David Britt, William Britt, Scott Edwards, Kenny Heron, Richard Perot, and Johnny Ray Smith. Visitation will be held from 5:00PM until 7:00PM Monday, February 3, 2014 at Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe. The family would like to give special thanks to the Rosemont Assisted Living and Louisiana Hospice for their loving care of their mother.
