A Celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, October 15 at 3:00 pm at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, in Shreveport, with interment immediately after the service. The service will be led by Brother Billy Pierce, with Brother Tommy Patton assisting. Dorothy Lawrence was born on May 1, 1927 in Poland, Louisiana, a small town near Alexandria. She graduated from Poland High School, married, and, after raising two daughters, went back to school at University of Louisiana in Monroe. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education and taught for a total of 33 years, first at Lakeshore Elementary in Monroe and then at Bellaire Elementary in Bossier. Teaching was her passion. She loved her administrators, colleagues, and most of all, her students. She loved teaching the third grade especially. During her years of teaching, Dorothy was awarded many honors. She was voted Teacher of the Year at Bellaire Elementary for three years. She was listed in Who's Who Among Teachers in America, and was a lifetime member of the PTA. She was much loved and will be remembered fondly by her family and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, C. S. "Dutch" Lawrence; and her parents, Mack and Lessie Tyler. She is survived by her daughters, Linda Robinson and Brenda Heiman; and two grandchildren, Iann Robinson and Melissa Heiman.
