His son Brian was at his side. Born on May 24, 1950, in Monroe, LA to the late Eulalie Angel Schumann and Charles Ford Laws, Jr. of New Orleans. Joseph completed his high school education at St. Frederick High School in Monroe, LA, furthered his studies in accounting at ULM in Monroe and received a Master’s in Tax at The University of North Texas. Joseph (Joe) married the love of his life, Mollie Gail Doughtie of Monroe, LA, on November 17, 1973. Mollie and Joe lived in Dallas, TX for 35 years where they had a son, Brian Thomas Laws in 1985. Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mollie, in 2014, after a wonderful 40 years of marriage. Joe moved to Mandeville, LA after Mollie’s death where he is survived by their son, Brian Thomas Laws of Mandeville, LA. Joe dedicated his career to accounting in the oil and gas sector as a CPA, working with various multinational businesses, where he was respected for his expertise and work ethic. Beyond his professional life, he most cherished his role as a husband and father. He loved watching Texas Rangers’ games, home remodeling, gardening, nature during walks by the lake and cooking. Joe was lovingly known as the “eternal optimist.” Joe was a devout member of St. Rita Catholic Church in Dallas and Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Mandeville. He was deeply involved in his religious community where he volunteered through various ministries. He is survived by his son, Brian Thomas Laws, siblings Sr. Monica Laws of St. Louis, Mary Laws of St. Louis, and Peter Laws of Dallas. He was preceded in death by brothers John Burnett Laws, Charles (Ford) Laws III, Richard Tarvin Laws, Ret. Master Sergeant William (Bill) Laws USMC, Thomas (Tiny) Laws and sisters Ann Stanton Laws Dubos and Sr. Angelita Laws. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Paschal's Catholic Church in West Monroe, LA, on September 21, 2024. Visitation with the family will be 10-11 a.m. and Funeral Mass at 11:00a. Interment will be at St. Paschal’s Cemetery, West Monroe immediately following the service.
