LEE Mr. S. E. (Ed) Lee, Jr. passed away peaceably on March 20, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Lee was a native of Winnsboro, Louisiana, where he was born on November 15, 1917. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Mary Rhodes Chennault Lee, his daughters, Mary Eleanor Lee Sweet and husband Ken, and Jane Routh Lee Hartfield and husband Jerry, Jr., his sons, Samuel E. Lee III, and John David Lee and wife Joy, and his step-son, David Chennault and wife Debbie. He is further survived by his grandchildren, Eleanor Hartfield Wallace and husband Windell and Jerry Hartfield III and wife Cara, and his step-grandchildren, Samuel Chennault and Mary Beth Chennault, along with five great grandchildren. His survivors also include a sister, Pollye Lee Stitt, and a brother, Kirby E. Lee (Grace). He was preceded in death by his parents, S. E. Lee, Sr. and Lula Belle Wiltshire Lee, by his first wife and mother of his children, Routh Merle Brackett Lee, and by his sister, Lucye Lee Brocato. Lawyer Lee was a remarkable man who lived a long, full, and productive life. He was a loving son, husband, father, brother, and friend. He was devoted to his home church, First United Methodist Church in Winnsboro, where he was a fixture in the choir, in his Sunday School class, and in the Methodist Men's group. He was a man of abiding faith, with a strong ethical code exhibited in his daily activities, his law practice, and his relationships. Mr. Lee was proud to have served in the U.S. Army for four years during WWII achieving the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He treasured the memories of that time in his life and lasting camaraderie he had with his fellow soldiers. He received his undergraduate degree from Louisiana Tech, he then attended and graduated from LSU Law School. Mr. Lee was a member of the Louisiana Bar Association for over 70 years, and dearly loved practicing law in his hometown. He valued his clients, and took their cases to heart. He retired from the practice of law at 93 years of age. He was past president of Winnsboro Lions Club. He was also a bit of a Renaissance man, in that he had a strong sense of curiosity about the world. This led him to travel extensively and read avidly. He loved to fish, play bridge and dominoes, tell stories, garden, sing, and meet people. He loyally followed La Tech and LSU Athletics and was a St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan. He will be greatly missed by his family and many, many friends and acquaintances in Winnsboro and the surrounding area. The family would like to extend special thanks to Claudia Williams, Plantation Manor Nursing Center and First Choice Hospice. Pallbearers are Edward Davis, Joel Ezell, Robert Duane Franklin, Sam Hartfield, James McLemore, Alex Richards, Benjamin Richards & John Stapp. Honorary pallbearers are the members of Men's Sunday School Class. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home in Winnsboro, Louisiana. The funeral will be held at the Winnsboro First United Methodist Church at 2:00 p. m. on Wednesday, March 23, with visitation at the church on Tuesday, March 22, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Memorial donations should be sent to the Winnsboro First United Methodist Church Choir or charity of your choice .
