Warren Eckhardt officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. Dr. Letson passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2009. He was born December 12, 1930 in McCalla, AL. He was a member of North Monroe Baptist Church where he was a member of the Agape Sunday School class. His parents, Paul and Susie Rosser Letson, preceded him in death. Dr. Letson received his BS degree in Chemical Engineering in May of 1954 from the University of Alabama. He worked at Chemstrand in Decatur, AL until entering the U. S. Army as a Second Lieutenant and served at Ft. Belvoir in Virginia and Ft. Campbell, KY, with the 927 Engineering Company. Upon discharge, he returned to Chemstrand before returning to graduate school at the University of Alabama for his Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering and PhD in Chemistry in 1964. He was an Instructor in the Mechanical Drawing Department. He completed his Dissertation on research done while working for the U. S. Bureau of Mines in Tuscaloosa, AL. He was a member of Tau Bata Pi; Engineering Honor Society at the University of Alabama. After completing his PhD, he was employed at the Army Missile Command in Huntsville, AL. In August 1965 he joined the faculty at Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe, LA where he was a Professor of Chemistry until retirement in 1996. NLU Alumni Association recognized Dr. Letson with an Outstanding Teacher in the College of Pure & Applied Science and the Distinguished Teacher Award in October of 1989. He was named a Favorite Professor by the Beta Delta Chapter of Lambda Tau, chosen by his students. Dr. Letson is survived by his wife, Tommie Hereford Letson; special dog, Lucy; daughter, Lori Cason and husband Randy; son, Jeff Letson; grandchildren, Ashley Reed and husband Rodney; Andy Bryant, Magen Letson, Bryant Letson, and Alison Bryant; brother, Neil Letson and wife Patricia of Harrison, TN; sister, Katie Gregg and husband Carlos of Sheffield, AL; sister-in-law, Carolyn Hereford Marshall and husband Jack; and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to North Monroe Baptist Church and ULM Foundation. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Larry O Linde and staff, as well as Dr. Scott Burkett, Dr. Karen Beene, Dr. Daniel Hutton, Dr. Uma Rangaraj; and the staff of St. Francis Medical Center for the care given to Dr. Letson.
