His love for life, sense of humor and loyalty were unparalleled. He was a friend of many and enemy of few. Either way, one knew where he stood because of his genuine honesty and warm smile, or cutting sarcasm and quick temper. Spec admired you if you were a Neville student or alumnus, if you wore a military uniform, if you loved dogs, or, if you spoke with correct grammar (the King's English). Spec was compassionate to everyone who truly had a need, often working behind the scenes to support a worthy cause. Three times a week he took food donations from local restaurants to the kitchen at Grace Place, and worked there as a server once a month. Spec was active in his church, serving as an elder at First Presbyterian Church in Baton Rouge where he led the Stewardship Committee. Upon his return to Monroe, he enjoyed his Sunday school class at First Methodist Church. A master of knowing how to service a customer, Spec excelled as a sales manager, retiring from the Horace Mann Insurance Company in 2005. As a long time resident of Baton Rouge, Spec was eager to return to his hometown of Monroe. It was no surprise when Spec ran for city council in an effort to make Monroe a better place. He could be found almost every morning drinking coffee with his close friends, "solving the world's problems", and telling long stories from untamed youth as a player on Neville's first football championship team in 1955. Spec enjoyed writing letters to the editor of newspapers, always "writing it exactly as I meant it", and disregarding political correctness. It was always written politely, and as expected, correctly in the King's English. Spec attended ULM, LSU, and earned a B.S. at Louisiana Tech in 1960. He was a member of Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity, and held a particular fondness for all his brothers of Delta Kappa Epsilon social fraternity. Marion David Lewis, loving husband, dedicated father, and dear friend, was welcomed home by our Creator on August 3, 2015. He was born December 21, 1938, in Monroe, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his father, John Graydon Lewis and mother, Annette Massie Lewis; and a son, Mac Lewis.
