MELVIN L. "JOE" LOPER JR.


Melvin L. (Joe) Loper Jr. went to be with his Lord and Savior December 16, 
2012. Joe was born November 26, 1933 in Shreveport, La to Melvin L. Loper, Sr. 
and Sallie Steidley Loper.

Joe married the love of his life Betty R. Gammel on November 7, 1953. They 
cherished 59 years of life together as one, living the majority of that time 
in Monroe, LA. The last 2 years they have lived in Kilgore, TX.

Joe is survived by his wife Betty Loper, sister Alice Fitzgerald of Desloge, 
MO, son and daughter-in-law Les and Tonia Loper of Kilgore, TX, son and 
daughter-in-law Ben and Sandra Loper of Cabot, AR. 

He is also survived by grandchildren Lori Shelton and husband Marty of 
Kilgore, TX, Chad Loper and wife Courtney of Kilgore, TX, Russ Loper and wife 
Andrea of Cabot, AR and Lindsey Beaver and husband Mitch of Cabot, AR, 8 great 
grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many other loving family 
members and friends.

Joe was preceded in death by both his parents Melvin L. Loper, Sr and Sallie 
Steidley Loper.

Papa Joe was a devoted and loving husband, dad, pawpaw, coach and friend to 
many. He served 2 years in the United States Army. After leaving the Army he 
joined his Dad at Loper Machine Works in Monroe, LA. He went on to become a 
machinist and foreman at Ouachita Machine Works in West Monroe, LA. until his 
retirement in 2006.

The family will have a private graveside service for Papa Joe at Danville 
Cemetery in Kilgore, TX Tuesday December 18th, 2012 under the direction of 
Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore, Texas.
