Eugene F. Love of Winnfield passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2010. He was married to the love of his life, the late Dhale Malone Love, for 67 years and two months. Born October 18, 1919 in Linville, Louisiana, he was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin Love and the late Katie Lou Johnson Love. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Hazel Love and Emily Powell and brothers Ed, Percy, and Charlie Love. Mr. Love graduated from Linville High School in 1937. He was a graduate of Louisiana State University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1947, a Master of Science degree in 1951 and his Masters plus 30 in 1952. He completed work toward a PhD at LSU and the University of Wyoming. Mr. Love taught agriculture at Winnfield High School from 1947 until 1951. He was Superintendent of Winn Parish Schools from 1953 until 1954. Mr. Love served as principal of Winnfield High School from 1951 to 1952, and again from 1955 until 1964. He was principal of Winnfield Junior High School from 1964 until 1973. Mr. Love was the Director of Secondary Education for the State of Louisiana and the Assistant Superintendent of the Louisiana State Department of Education from 1975 to 1976. Nothing made him happier than seeing the successes his students attained over the years. For thirty years he broadcast football and basketball games for radio station KVCL. He and Mrs. Love were authors of several books, among them Masonry in Winn Parish; The Lighthouses, Churches in Winn Parish; Looking Back, a History of Winn Parish; An Encyclopedia of Union Parish History and The Eastern Star in Winn Parish. Mr. Love wrote articles for Masonic publications, articles for daily and weekly newspapers at the local, state, and national levels. In 1961 he received the highest degree given by the Louisiana Association of the Future Farmers of America for outstanding service. He was Past Master of Eastern Star Lodge #151 F&AM in 1963, and Past Grand Master of The Grand Lodge of Louisiana F&AM in 1989. Mr. Love joined the Scottish Rite in Shreveport, Louisiana in 1960 and affiliated with the Monroe Scottish Rite Bodies in 1970 when they were under dispensation. He served as commander of Monroe Council of Kadosh in 1974; Master of Kadosh of the Monroe Consistory in 1986; Venerable Master of the Lodge of Perfection in 1994. Mr. Love was invested with the Knight's Commander Court of Honor in 1969 and was Coroneted a 33rd degree in 1979. He was also a member and Past Patron of Palestine Chapter #55 Order of the Eastern Star in Winnfield, Louisiana. In 1978 he was Grand Chaplain of the Grand Lodge of Louisiana, 1967 Grand Steward, District Deputy 5th Masonic District, and 1966 Worshipful Master 5th Masonic District. He was the 1964 Worshipful Master of the Eastern Star Lodge, a member of the York Rite Bodies, Monroe Scottish Rite Bodies, and the Barak Shrine Club. He was a member of the Grand Lodge Hall Board, Chairman of the Masonic Education 5th District for 15 years, member of the Grand Lodge Education Committee, Chairman of Public Relations Committee, Louisiana Grand Lodge and the Grand Lodge Honesty and Integrity committee. He loved the Masonic Home for Children and served for several years as chairman of the Grand Master's Homecoming, chairman of Grand Master's Christmas Party for the children, chairman of the committee to buy school supplies for the children as well as other special projects for the Masonic Home for Children. Mr. Love was ordained as a deacon in the Baptist Church July 20, 1960. He was a lay speaker at churches, association meetings, revivals and conventions. He served as Sunday school teacher at Autumn Leaves Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center for more than forty-eight years. He conducted over a thousand lay funerals in his lifetime and 589 Masonic funerals. His life was all about service to his community, his state, education and to God. He is survived by two daughters, Dr. Phyllis A. Love of Ruston and Dr. Donna Love Wright of Ashland, Oregon; two grandchildren, Toni S. Wright of Taos, New Mexico and Vincent Craig Wright of Ashland, Oregon, and two great grandchildren, Vincent Love Wright and Silas Henry Wright of Ashland, Oregon. his brother O. D. (Don) Love of West Monroe, Louisiana, 4 nieces, 5 nephews, numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews and special family members Dr. Darlene A. Kluka of Davie, Florida, Julie Hashimoto-McCreery of Ashland, Oregon, and Ramsey Scott of Taos, New Mexico. Visitation will be held Saturday, April 24, 2010 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and Sunday, April 25, 2010 from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM at the Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield. Services will be held Sunday, April 25, 2010, at 1:30 PM at the First Baptist Church of Winnfield. Masonic Services will be held at 4:30 PM at the Antioch Baptist Church of Farmerville followed by Military Services at the Antioch Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Johnny Brister, Mike Jordan, Ronnie Brazzell, Randy Hall, Jimmy Dale Zimmerman, Representative Jim Fannin, Greg Davies, and Charlie Bice. Honorary pallbearers will be Delores Carter, Nell Grigg, Sarah Shell, Kami Worley, Lari Brister, Laurinda Crenshaw, Mary Ann McCartney Roberts, and Joan Roberts Garner.
