Rev. Neil Everett, Rev. Dub Massey, Rev. Hugh Diffey, and Rev. Ricky Nolan will be officiating. Interment to follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Calhoun, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe, LA. Mr. Lovett was born July 17, 1930 in Middletown, Indiana and passed away February 8, 2009 in West Monroe, LA. As a young man Coach received a basketball scholarship to Louisiana Tech, he also played baseball while attending Tech. After graduating from Tech he went on and received his master degree from Northwestern State. Coach served in the United States Army, while enrolled he participated with the U. S. Army basketball team. Once his military duties were up he moved to Calhoun and went to work with Ouachita Parish School System as coach and teacher at Calhoun High School. Coach touched many young lives in the 31 years of teaching and coaching. He was inducted into Louisiana Tech Athletic Hall of Fame and L. S. H.A.A. Hall of Fame. He was also named Louisiana's Mr. Basketball and one of Coach's proudest moments was when the old Calhoun gym was named Lovett Gymnasium. Coach was a member of Calhoun First Baptist Church for 52 years and served as a deacon. His faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and that message to people and students will always be remembered. Coach was a people person if you didn't know him prior to meeting him you would know him before he left you. Pops as he was known by his grandchildren was an avid fisherman and loved his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Sarah Lovett; two brothers, Harold Lovett and Woodrow Lovett, a sister, Florence Bronnenberg. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joyce Williamson Lovett; 3 children; Jerry Lee Lovett, Jr. and wife Amelia, Julie Aswell and husband Werner, Lori Barr and husband Gary; brother, Clayton Lovett and wife JoAnn; sister, Christina Markle; grandchildren; Emily Housley and husband Jeffrey, Wesley Lovett, Taylor Aswell, Kari Aswell, Garrison Barr, Claire Barr, Ethan Barr and Jack Barr, and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be James Futrell, Paul Thompson, Richard Mitchell, Richard Puckett, Arlon Terrell, Randy Wilbanks, Bill Moore and Peyton Johnson. Honorary pallbearers Larry Massey, Dick Hancock, Harry Brown, Johnny Pace, Dolan Jackson, Richard Campbell, Bob Jiles and Deacons of First Baptist Church, Willard Futrell Sunday School Class, Fellow Members Gideon International and former ballplayers and students. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Calhoun Building Fund, Gideons International or Autism Society of America. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday and Noon until service time Wednesday at the church.
