Born in Monroe, LA where he graduated from Neville High School then attended USL in Lafayette. He received his masters degree at University of Mississippi Southern in Hattiesburg, Ms. Mr. Luffey coached and taught at Neville High School in 1953 after serving in the U.S. Army. In 1954 he was the NLU assistant football coach and head baseball coach for 11 years, where he guided them to their first ever baseball championship. In 1965 he retired from coaching and opened Luffey's Medical Supply with his brothers Mike and John, where he retired 34 years later. He served as chairman on the Monroe Recreational Board for 17 years and helped put together Chennault Recreational Park. He served on the La. Public Broadcasting TV Authority for 3 Years and the La. Board of Regents for 18 years. In 1975 he was inducted into the USL Hall of Fame and in 1996 the NLU Hall of Fame. Mr. Luffey was preceded in death by his son, George L. Luffey Jr. "Chip"; niece, Cindy Luffey; brothers, John Luffey; Isaac Luffey; and Mike Luffey; sisters, Jenny Restom; Annie Kincaid; Mary Luffey; Nizzera Thompkins; and Adele Worley; brother-in-law, Charles Puckett and wife Pat; sister-in-law, Lael McGough and husband Sam. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Jane Puckett Luffey; daughters, Lisa Marks and companion David Pate; Laurie Schexnaider and husband Jeff; Miranda Breard and husband Danny; Grandchildren, George Matthew Marks and wife Tess; Mary Kathryn Breard; and George Daniel Breard; step grandchildren, Ray and Nick Schexnaider, and also numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2016, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home in Monroe, LA. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Friday, July 8, 2016 at Jesus the Good Shepherd Church with Father Job Edathinatt and Deacon Tom Deal officiating. Interment will at Mulhearn Memorial Park Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be Joe Allen Thompkins, Michael Worley, Gary Luffey, Elee Trichelle, John Pruitt, J.W. Lewis and Lane Kincaid. Honorary pallbearers will be his BDCC golfing buddies. The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to Always Best Care sitter Bertha Bradley and 1st Choice Hospice. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made in his name to Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 2510 Emerson Rd, Monroe, LA 71201, St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 357 Swartz School Rd, Monroe, LA 71203, the St. Frederick Warrior Foundation, 101 Silver Dr., Monroe, LA, or to a charity of your choice .
