It is to Mrs. Frankie that I owe thanks for these treasures! Most of these obituaries (which are clippings) have no dates on them. They were probably taken from the Monroe News, one of the parent newspapers of the modern News-Star or the Progressive Age, a Ruston paper. Most date from the 1890-1910 years, which are now lost to time. These newspapers were never preserved. That makes these obituaries even more valuable to researchers. Whenever possible, dates and information clarifying the obituaries have been taken from cemetery indexes at the Ouachita Parish Public Library. Sallie Millsaps Larche. At this season of rejoicing and high hope, the angel of death has come into our midst and taken away the joyous spirit of Sallie Millsaps Larche, a sweet young lady, of gracious presence whose whole acquaintanceship was a circle of loving friends. She died in Franklin, La., on Sunday morning, December 29th; and was buried near the bosom of the earth that nurtured her, in Hasley cemetery above Trenton on Monday afternoon. She was born in Union parish near Downsville twenty-five years ago; her mother, Mrs. S.A. Larche now resides at the old homestead. She was a niece of Hon. Uriah Millsaps, of West Monroe, and a sister of Mr. L.N. Larche. She was a graduate of Monroe's parish High-school and of the Natchitoches Normal School; and had taught in the Franklin High-school in St. Mary parish for two years, as well as in country schools in Ouachita during the summers of the years she studied at Natchitoches. She was a wholesome, happy, hopeful spirit, strong and brave and in love with the world, and happy in her profession which she adorned. Her death was wholly unexpected; and to the bitter grief of loss is added the sense of sorrow for what she might have done in this world if she had lived-noble work now to fall to other hands or go neglected. The consolation for the death of those whose work is done is ever- abiding in rational minds; but that for the death of the young and strong is far to seek and can be found only in a vital faith in immortality and the unerring beneficence of Providence. To the Heaven of spirits redeemed and departed the pure soul of this unselfish, spotless girl has gone out of the reach of loving relatives and friends who mourn her sad death, come so untimely in her bright youth. Additional Comments: Sallie Millsaps Larche was born September 20, 1876 and died December 28, 1901. She was the daughter of Snow Washington Larche and is buried in Hasley Cemetery in West Monroe.
