MAILHES Graveside services for John D. Mailhes, Jr., 93, of Monroe, will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery with Reverend Jon Salminen and Reverend Paul McComack officiating, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Monroe. Mr. Mailhes was born on August 24, 1921 in New Orleans, Louisiana, and passed away peacefully Thursday, January 15, 2015, at his home in Monroe. Mr. Mailhes was a United States Marine Corp veteran of WWII, with the 4th Marines; he was in the major batttles at Iwo Jima, Saipan and Roi-Namur. After the service he attended L.S.U. and received his B.S. Degree from Tulane University in 1948. He and his family moved to Baton Rouge in 1959, where he served as a FHA and Independent Appraiser. He and his wife, Jean, moved to Monroe in 2005. Mr. Mailhes was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. John loved his family and enjoyed fishing, watching football, and always looked forward to crawfish season. Mr. Mailhes was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Marie Misset Mailhes; his parents, John D. and Lillian Kanel Mailhes; and his sister, Joyce Sparks. Survivors include his children, Dean S. Mailhes; Linda Salminen and husband, Jon; Amanda Kowal and husband, Larry; grandchildren, Jonathan Mailhes and wife, Adrienne; Justin Mailhes and wife, Kayleigh; Jenna Mailhes; Daniel Salminen and wife, Kristen; Bethany Salminen; Brandon Kowal and Serena Kowal. Visitation will be Sunday prior to the service at the graveside. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Carolyn Rose Strauss Senior Center, Ferrand Street, Monroe, Louisiana.
