On the day she was born in October, the good Lord said there could only be one Debbie, and the mold was broken. The Lord called her to Heaven on September 4, 2015. Debbie grew up with wonderful memories and adventures with her brother John, Jr. and her sisters Karen Rene and Kristi Shannon. The many family stories they could tell could fill a book. She had wonderful times and memories attending Sherrouse Elementary, Swartz Jr. High, and later Ouachita High School where she was a member of the dance team, The Ouachita Dandelions. She graduated from Ouachita in 1975, and that same year was crowned Miss Louisiana Teenager. She always enjoyed her class reunions and expressed how much her recent 40th meant to her. Debbie was always a beautiful girl whose smile could light up a room, but her true beauty was found on the inside in her kind, loving ways. She and her entire family attended College Place Baptist Church where they were part of almost every aspect of church life. She loved to sing and traveled the country for years with the College Place Baptist Youth Choir. Until her passing, she had constantly remained in close contact and friendships with the College Place Baptist Church former Youth gang. Debbie graduated from ULM with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. She loved life and all the people and for years practiced her passion and calling of Nursing at North Monroe Hospital in the emergency room and endocscopy where she was loved by so many. Among many of her other accomplishments, were working as a flight nurse, Department of Homeland Security and the American Red Cross. Debbie had a passion for animals her whole life and recently said that although she loved nursing, she probably should have been a veterinarian. She founded Krewes Rescues, which was her very own rescue program to help save animals in need. Among her many rescues, her constant companions were her beloved Vizslas and her longtime companion, Dakota. Debbie never let life get the best of her. Despite two failed hip replacements, and the complications that followed, she remained active and always smiling. She was always full of fun and had a quick wit and was always happily doing the unexpected. Recently, she sent out a picture via her smart phone of the aerial view of herself at the top of a very high tree rescuing an injured cat. The physical impossibility of such a feat was not impossible for her due to her compassion and determination to rescue animals. Only a girl named Debbie Maroney could or would do that, and this was typical Debbie. A Bible verse that was used to describe her father also describes Debbie and is as follows: "A Merry heart doeth good, like a medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones." Proverbs 17:22 She was most always merry, tried her best to be optimistic, no matter the circumstances. Debbie was always able to accomplish what looked like the impossible. Debbie always said her greatest accomplishments in her life were her two sons, Matt, Jr. and Michael "Fuzz", and she was always their biggest fan! The wonderful grandchildren that they blessed her with brought her such tremendous joy and happiness! Debbie was preceded in death by her father, former local engineer, John G. Maroney in 2007. She was the perfect blend of both her mother and her father in her generous and loving spirit. People would say she was the spitting image of her father. Just like her Dad, she never met a stranger and she was always full of fun, love, compassion, laughter, and a heart of gold. Her beloved dog Sassy preceded her in death as well. Debbie is survived by her Mother, Nancy Maroney Hall & husband Dave; 2 sons, Matt A. Jones & wife Pam and Michael "Fuzz" Jones & wife Haley; 1 brother, John G. Maroney, Jr. & wife June; 2 sisters, Karen Maroney Bennett & husband Frank and Kristi Maroney Nolan & husband Yancey; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Chaz, Ashley & husband Jason Elee, Jr., Chandler, Weston and Matti Claire; great grandchild, Cason; 11 nieces & nephews, John, Jacob Robert, Hannah, Connor, Landry, Lucy, Alex, Anna Grace, Yancey, Jr., John Brady and Nancy Claire; Special friends & family, Krystal Hunt, Lacey Hobson, Becky DeMoss, Foster Brother Billy Brown & wife Barbara and daughters, and many other friends; Father of her sons, Matt A. Jones, Sr. & wife Rene and daughter Lily Kate; and her beloved Vizslas and Dakota and the many other dogs and cats she rescued and called her "Fur Babies". Debbie, despite the many obstacles she faced in life, always remained positive and smiling. The following seems fitting for such a life well lived: "I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all things through Christ who gives me Strength." A Memorial Service will be held Friday, September 11, 2015 at 2:00pm at College Place Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 11:00am till the time of service at the Church.
