A Celebration of Life for Benjamin Franklin Marshall, III, of Monroe, will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at Covenant Presbyterian Church. Rev. John T. Mabray and Rev. Jonathan Wagner will officiate. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe. Ben was born on January 28, 1926, in Jackson, MS and passed away peacefully on October 10, 2015, in Monroe. He was an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church where he served as a trustee, deacon, and elder. He attended Georgia Tucker, Neville High School and was a proud alumnus of Louisiana State University where he majored in Journalism. In college, he served as President of Sigma Alpha Epsilon social fraternity and was voted BSC, (Big Shot on Campus). His LSU studies were delayed as he served in the US Navy on Guam during World War II. He spent his professional life in the banking industry at Ouachita National Bank, where he helped many business owners and entrepreneurs get their start. He served on the Louisiana Higher Education Assistance Commission from 1964 to 1972 appointed by Governor John J. McKeithen. His memberships included Robert Morris Associates, Monroe Jaycees, LSU Foundation Board, LSU Alumni Association, Bayou DeSiard Country Club, Lotus Club, and the Masur Museum. Gifted with a keen mind and love of history, Ben enjoyed traveling, reading, and all things sports related. Ben was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Alice Joy Harper Marshall, his mother, Allyne Haynes Marshall Petty, his father, Benjamin Franklin Marshall, II and his step-father, Fred Petty. Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Vyvian Allyne Marshall Hollis; son, Benjamin Franklin Marshall, IV and his wife, Kathy and daughter, Margaret Harper Marshall Barr and her husband, Jess; six grandchildren, Marshall Allen Hollis (Erin) of Hoover, AL, Thomas Harper Hollis of Jackson Hole, WY, Allyne Blanche Hollis and her fiancée, Ragan Baker of Jackson Hole, WY, Emma Allyne Barr, Camille Joy Barr and Haynes Shepard Barr all of Monroe, LA; and two great-granddaughters, Bellalise Sophia and Annalise Kensington Hollis; sister, Marillyn Marshall Taylor Klam; several nieces and nephews. Lori Isbell took great loving care of Ben. The family wishes to thank her for such attentive and compassionate care. The family also wishes to thank Ben's friend and attending physician, Dr. Thomas St. Clair Williams who provided him with excellent medical care and advice as well as comfort to the family. Pallbearers will be Scott Lusk Anderson, Dr. John Dennis McClendon, Rick Taylor, Robert Taylor, James Conway Liner IV and Benjamin Milam Mintz. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Robert Wood, Dr. Eugene Worthen, Carl Tidwell, Johnny T. Johnson, Pat Suidy, B.K. Fluker, Joey McGinn, and Keith Babb. Memorials may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 1901 Milton Street, Monroe, LA 71201 or the charity of one's choice . Visitation will be Wednesday, October 14, 2015 from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service in the Fireside Room at Covenant Presbyterian Church.
