MARTIN J. C. Martin, age 77, passed away unexpectedly at his home on September 7, 2017. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday September 9, 2017, at 11 am in Gill First National Funeral Home with Rev. Rex Barker officiating. Visitation is planned prior to the service from 9 - 11. Interment will be at Boeuf Prairie Methodist Church in Fort Necessity where J. C. was a long time member. J. C. served in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He later followed in his Father's footsteps and worked as a contractor, then as Maintenance Supervisor for the Franklin Parish School Board. His most important job, however, was his role as husband, Daddy, and Papaw. He grew up in a large family, the fourth of thirteen children. He learned at a young age the value of hard work and family devotion, ideals from which he never strayed. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Robbins, parents, one brother and one sister. He is survived by his high school sweetheart, life- long friend and dedicated wife of 57 years, Anne. Children left to cherish his memory are daughter Debra Barker and Rex, sons Terry Martin and Vicki, Glyn Martin and wife Lisa, as well as his special niece, Judy Ragsdale. He was blessed with eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, as well as ten brothers and sisters. Honoring J. C. as pallbearers will be Jeff Winters, Cuyler Martin, Cammie Landry, Jerry Robbins, John Robbins, Brandon Easterling, Dr. Tom Colvin, and Dr. David Colvin. Honorary pallbearers are Brad Nelson, Daniel Landry, Jimbo Colvin, Ralph Easterling, Luke Ledet and Charles Sowders. He was a man of faith, family, integrity, and hard work, which will be carried on for generations. He loved family gatherings but nothing made him smile like his grandkids and great-grandkids. We are comforted knowing he is now in heaven, but he will be greatly missed. Online condolences may be made at www.gillfirstnational.com .
