Ricky Baker and Dr. Jim Wolfe officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home Monroe. Mr. Mason was born September 23, 1920 in Springhill, LA and passed away February 26, 2015 in West Monroe, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Elsie Mason, Swartz; his wife, Irene Tarver Mason; daughter, Brenda Hood West Monroe; brother, Spurgeon Mason, Chatham; nephew, Jimmy Mason, Monroe. A graduate of Ouachita Parish High School, he entered the Army in 1941 at Camp Beauregard. As Sergeant, he was assigned to duty with the military Police Force in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He embarked July 1943 for Palermo, Sicily; Naples, Italy; St. Maxime, Southern France; and Oran, North Africa. He returned to Europe, landing at Marseille on December 23, 1944, and served in Nice, and Langenlonshein, Germany. He crossed France five times transferring prisoners of war and was awarded a trip to Paris for good conduct. He served for 38 months and was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater of Operations Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was discharged September 14, 1945 at Camp Shelby. He retired from Louisiana Power and Light (Entergy) after 38 years as a lineman working tirelessly, never leaving, in thunderstorms or ice storms to restore electricity to customers' homes. He was a loyal member of Ridge Avenue Baptist Church for 66 years, serving as a deacon and usher. His familiar greeting "top of the morning" or "hello doll" welcomed all who came his way, as he assisted those with frailties as they entered. An avid fisherman, forever packrat, he was always eager to hear a good fish tale. Equally proud of every family member's accomplishments, he will be remembered as giving unconditional love to his children and grandchildren.
