Weldon Gaddy officiating. Interment to follow at Liberty-Taylor Cemetery, under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes. Don was born February 25, 1935 in Monroe, LA and passed away in his home on Monday March 31, 2014. Don was a native of Monroe, LA and a graduate of Ouachita Parish High School and Tulane University with a degree in architecture. Upon graduation he received the Alpha Rho Chi Medal for Leadership, Service and Merit in 1958. He was active in the Louisiana Architects Association and was President in 1986. He was a member of the local Monroe chapter. He practiced architecture in various locations from 1958 to 1968. From 1968 to 1989 he operated his own architectural practice, taught and was Director of the School of Art and Architecture for a short period of time at Louisiana Tech University. From 1989 to 2002 he was Superintendent of Building Inspections for Escambia County, Pensacola, Florida. He was life -long member of Kiwanis International and active in the Council on Aging in Ruston. He also served as president of the Ruston Symphony Society. He earned the designation of Master Gardner. He is survived by his spouse, Phoebe Allen Mathys; two daughters, Donna Mathys Bancks and husband George; Rebecca Mathys Warner and husband Dane; four grandchildren, Jeremy Upton and wife Candice; Emily Mathewes Warner and husband William; Caroline Sarah Florsheim and Juley Quinn Warner.
