Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 10, at Forest Park Cemetery, 3700 St. Vincent Ave. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, at First Presbyterian Church, Shreveport. Officiating will be Rev. Dr. Chris Currie and assisted by Rev. Dr. Frank Yates of Albuquerque, NM. A reception will follow in the Church Parlor. Mr. Matthews was a native of Monroe, LA and a resident of Shreveport for over 50 years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Shreveport where he was a Deacon, Elder and Elder Emeritus. He was a graduate of Ouachita Parish High School in Monroe and Louisiana Tech, Ruston, LA. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity and was elected to Who's Who in American College and Universities. He retired from Texas Eastern after 32 years. He worked at Caddo Parish Assessor's office for 22 years as Chief Fiscal Officer. He was very active in the Shreveport Jaycees, having served as President, State Vice President and State Editor. In 1955 he received the L M Moffitt award as The Outstanding Jaycee in the Shreveport Chapter. He also served as Past President of the Shreveport Rose Society and the Sons of the American Revolution. Mr. Matthews was preceded in death by his wife, Dorrie Coates Matthews; his parents, Will Bunn and Penelope Smith Matthews; sister, Craig Lyon; brothers, Will Bunn Matthews, Arthur Hugh Matthews. He is survived by his niece, Arralee Hays of Baton Rouge, LA; nephews, Paul Lyon, wife Jane, Charlotte, NC, Chad Lyon and Barbara, Irvine, CA, Bobby Matthews, wife Susie, New Orleans, LA, Bunny Matthews, wife Debbie, Abita Springs, LA; his 97 year old aunt, Katherine S. Yates, Albuquerque, NM; many other nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be Dan Albritton, Tom Bullock, John D. Caruthers, Jared Evans, Charles Kramer, Charlie Lester, Jack McDermott, Robert Saucier, Tom Wilson and Louis Harris. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church, 900 Jordan St., Shreveport, LA 71101, The American Rose Society, P.O.
