MAUFFRAY Hon. Judge John Phillip "J.P." Mauffray, Jr., 73 of Jena, Louisiana passed away on Friday, December 2, 2016, at his home in Walkerville Community, Louisiana. He was born Thursday, November 18, 1943 in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the union of John Phillip, Sr. and Margurite Louise ( Waguespack) Mauffray. Among Judge Mauffray's many accomplishments were; In 1960 Appointed Colonel on the staff of Governor Jimmie Davis as an Aide de Camp, in 1965 received a B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering from Tulane University school of engineering, in 1973 received a Juris Doctor degree from LSU school of law, 1973 to 1974 served as member of the Moot Court Board, in 1977 admitted and qualified as attorney and counselor of the Supreme Court. He served as leader for Boy Scouts of America and was an Eagle Scout himself. He was past president of the Lake Charles Jaycees. He served as District Judge for the 28th Judicial District from 1994 until 2008. Judge Mauffray is survived by his wife of 30 years Marilyn Rose (Smith) Mauffray of Jena. Four sons, John Phillip Mauffray, III & wife Rachel of Picayune, Miss., Aaron Mauffray & wife Jenna Dunedin, Fla., Johnny Watts Mauffray & wife Kim of Baton Rouge, La. and Andy Cruse of Jena, daughter, Tammy (Cruse) Lincecum & husband Danny of Jena, brother, Billy Mauffray & wife Ester of Gainesville, Fla., sister, Joan Fetty & husband Jim of Gulf Breeze, Fla.. Grandchildren: Marisa Madeline Mauffray, Aaron Jacob Mauffray, Isabella Angela Mauffray, Macy Skye Mauffray, and Haley Lincecum Decker & husband Dustin. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Judge Chris Peters, Walter Dorroh, Steve Kendrick, mark Talley, Don Wilson,and Joe Wilson. Honorary pallbearers are Judge Jimmie Peters, Lloyd Henigan, Lewis Freeman, Albert Thompson, Roy Smith, Wallace Smith, Tracy Humphries, Jim Fetty, and Bobby Wilson. Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 in the Jena First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dominick DiCarlo, Rev. Terry Doughty, and Hon. J. Reed Walters officiating. Interment will be in Jena Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Monday, December 5, 2016, at Jena First Baptist Church and Tuesday from 8:30 AM until service.
