He was born on October 29, 1949 in Leveland, Texas. Shortly after birth, he moved to New Orleans, Louisiana and later to Mandeville, Louisiana. Before recently relocating to this area, he had been a long-time resident of Bastrop, Louisiana. He was the beloved son of the late J.M. Mayfield and the late Marilyn Autin Mayfield Gorgas. His stepmother was Genevieve Mayfield and his stepfather was the late Irvin Gorgas. He was the loving brother of William (Bill) Mayfield, Ginger Mayfield, the late Rita Mayfield Munez, Martha Hall, and Royce Sheek. He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends. Upon graduating from Mandeville High School, he received an FCC Engineering Degree in Atlanta, Georgia. After which he relocated to Bastrop, Louisiana where he was employed as a disc jockey and engineer for a local radio station. He furthered his education with a degree in Journalism from Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe and became a sports announcer and sports journalist for the Bastrop newspaper. He ended his career with a retirement from Pelican Plug Company as a purchasing agent, yet continued to remain an avid sports fan. He was an extraordinary man of impeccable character and integrity, and with his vivacious personality and keen wit, he never met a stranger. He will be forever loved and missed by all of his family and his many friends. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate David's life with a Funeral Mass at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 on Friday, April 7, 2017 at 2:00 PM with visitation on Friday beginning at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in J.M.
