Interment with Military Honors will be at Williamson Cemetery in Sailes, LA, under the direction of Rose Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 27, 2016, at Rose Neath Funeral Home Arcadia, LA. George was born August 25, 1934, in Gibsland, LA, to his parents, Mattie Marie Cole McConathy and Oliver Leslie McConathy. Mr. McConathy went to be with his Lord on October 24, 2016 after a lengthy illness. Upon graduation from Bryceland Academy, he attended Northwestern State University on an athletic scholarship. At the time of his induction into the Graduate "N" Club, George was the seventh all-time rebounder and seventh leading scorer in NSU history. He was also inducted into the NSU Athletic Hall of Fame and the Louisiana Basketball Hall of Fame. After obtaining his bachelor's degree in education, he received a Master's +30 at Northeast. He served honorably in the United States Army as a 2nd Lieutenant in Korea. He taught and coached successfully in Louisiana for several years before conducting a very successful business career for almost thirty years. He returned to teaching as a post-retirement calling and retired a second time in 1998. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver Leslie and Mattie Marie Cole McConathy, and his brothers, James Leslie McConathy and John R. McConathy. He leaves behind to carry on his legacy his cherished wife of 34 years, Dr. Terry Martin McConathy; sisters-in-law, Mary McConathy and Corene McConathy; daughters, Cynthia G."Genie"Loftin of Shreveport, LA; Diane Hill-Rothery and husband, Alan, of Bossier City, LA; Marianne McConathy Nelson and husband, Michael of Bossier City, LA; grandchildren, Dr. Jason Hill and wife, Elizabeth; Lucas Hill and wife Laura; Cole Lehman; Rachel and Sarah Loftin; 2 great-grandchildren; uncles, Marvin Glen Cole and wife, Shirley, Morrell Cole and wife, Elizabeth; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. The family would like to recognize special friends Reginald Sneed and Esther Rutherford who meant so much to George. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Greg Tubre, and Sarah of Green Clinic; Dr. Kerry Byrnes and Staff of Green Clinic, North Louisiana Medical Center, Life Care Specialty Hospital of Ruston, and Leslie Lakes Retirement Home, Arcadia, LA for their care and compassion. The family suggests memorials be made to Cypress Springs Baptist Church, 5905 Highway 516, Gibsland, LA, or to a charity of choice .
