McCook, 94, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Mrs. McCook died in the early hours of April 7 with family members in attendance after months of declining health. Mrs. McCook was born in Bernice, Louisiana to Larkin and Ruth Salley (Tabor), graduated from Ouachita Parish High School and attended Northeast College now known as Northeast Louisiana University. She raised her children in Monroe and co-owned McCook Desk and Safe Company with her husband of 43 years, Rhes Farmer McCook, Jr. After the death of her husband and the selling of McCook Desk and Safe Company, Mrs. McCook flourished in a career at R&A Jewelry. She loved learning the jewelry business and the mentoring by Sam Rubin, owner. In the latter part of the 1980's Mrs. McCook moved to Naples, Florida. In Naples, her primary focus was volunteering at Encore, working part time at The Lamp Shoppe and enjoying the warm climate. She was especially pleased to be close to one of her brothers and sister-in-law during her years in Naples. In 2007, she relocated to Chapel Hill, North Carolina to be near her daughter and family. Mary loved family activities above all else and was a wonderful gift to her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She delighted in all the family milestones of holidays, graduations, weddings, and birth of great grandchildren. Her children Charles Rhes McCook (Charlene) of Monroe, Louisiana and Jenny A. McCook Mabie (Peter) of Chapel Hill, North Carolina survive Mrs. McCook. She leaves five granddaughters, Lisa R. McNease (Bobby), Cindy F. Stine (Steve), Stuart Mabie Lascelles (Duncan), Rebecca Mabie McMurray (Bob), and Anna Mabie Jordan (Dan) and one grandson, Benjamin Peter Mabie along with six great grandchildren, Mallory D. Lawrence (Chris), Bryant P. Devillier, Morgan A. and Madison C. Woods, Rob and Ellie McMurray. Surviving her also is a nephew T. Ronald "Bo" Salley. Her husband, Rhes Farmer McCook, Jr., Sister Florine Salley, brothers and sisters-in-law, John Burl "JB" Salley (Teresa), Monroe Thomas "Monk" Salley (Joy), and Holland T. Salley (Mary Jeanne), predeceased Mrs. McCook. The family would like to extend gratitude for the consistent care extended by Angie Holeman CNA to our loved one during her final years and the many staff members at Peak Resources in Graham, North Carolina.
