He was preceded in death by his parents, Cloyd and Mornetta Mornetta Bartlett McCullen; and son, Mark Edwin McCullen. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Beth McCullen; daughters: Donna Haight and husband, Mike, and Cheryl McCullen; grandchildren: Jarad Garner and wife, Loran, Emily Scruggs and husband, Noah, Ryan Haight and wife, Katy, Anna Alexander and husband, Dustin, Jenny Alexander and husband, Daniel, and Garrett Haight; great grandchildren: Jaden Garner, Grayson & Garner Alexander, Ezra and Alyza Scruggs; brother, Chuck McCullen and wife, Nell; sisters: Patricia Knotts and Ka Kathy Coco; and numerous relatives. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Temple Baptist Church in Ruston, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Rev. Dale Oden will be officiating the service. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 AM until service time. Serving as pallbearers will be his beloved grandsons and the husbands of his very special granddaughters: Jarad Ga Garner, Ryan Haight, Garrett Haight, Noah Scruggs, Dustin Alexander, and Daniel Al Alexander. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Randy Moore Sunday Sc School class. Don was born in Simsboro, graduated from Simsboro High School, excelling in basketball and baseball. He attended La. Tech after receiving a basketball scholarship and enjoyed his freshman year on the La. Tech baseball team as second baseman coached by the great Coach Hinton. After his college days, he was employed by Beaird Industries in Shreveport for 45 years. He had a great passion for sports and enjoyed participating and coaching all ages in youth programs of the city and at his beloved Calvary Baptist Church Shreveport where he served as deacon and many leadership positions of the Church. One of his greatest joys was his participation and involvement in the planning and construction of the new Family Life Center and Sanctuary on Linwood Avenue. After retirement, he moved home to Simsboro to enjoy his life of retirement. He was an inactive was an inactive deacon at Temple Baptist Church, enjoyed his Men's Sunday School class and School class and the Senior Adult Activities of the Church. The family is thankful for the many prayers, visits, calls, and cards during Don's extended Don's extended illness.
