MCDONALD Funeral services will be held for Felton O. McDonald, 86, at the First Baptist Church in Homer on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Brian Thurman, officiating. Interment will follow at Lisbon Methodist Cemetery, Lisbon, LA. The family will receive friends at Rose-Neath Funeral Home on Friday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Mr. McDonald was born Oct. 30, 1926 in Antioch, LA and he entered into rest Wednesday, Oct. 16th at his home surrounded by his loving family following a lengthy illness. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre before being honorably discharged in 1946. Following his service in the armed forces, Felton attended Louisiana Tech University where he received a Bachelor of Science from the School of Agriculture and Forestry in 1950. This same year, he was also awarded the title of Outstanding Forester by LA Tech Foresters. Subsequently, Felton became a widely known and respected employee of Bodcaw for thirty years. He stayed with the company for five more years after it became International Paper, retiring in 1985. An avid member of First Baptist Church in Homer, Felton served as an Active Senior Deacon for many years. Felton was preceded in death by his parents, Jewell Clayton McDonald and Fannie Maude Nichols McDonald; also one daughter, Judy Kaye Brooks and two sisters and three brothers. He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Bettye Hightower McDonald of Homer; one son, John O. McDonald and wife Sandra Smith McDonald of Monroe; two daughters, Sue McDonald Garriga of Colorado Springs, CO and Bettye Gay McDonald Creed of Haughton; two sisters, Doris Shelton of Patagonia, AZ and Nellie Ruth Hughes of Waterproof, LA; 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be Sidney Smith, Robert Haynes, Nathan Thompson, Bud McDonald, Chic Hines, and Jerry Adkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Perry Booth, Jr., Duane Brown, Britt Synco, Eddie Ralph Harmon, Ryan Harmon. For friends considering memorials honoring Mr. McDonald, his family suggests the First Baptist Church of Homer, the American Heart Association , or the American Cancer Society .
