MCDOUGLE Kilpatrick Funeral Home Ruston, LA Curtis O. McDougle, 85, of Bossier City, Louisiana, died early Wednesday morning, August 20, 2008, at the Northwest Louisiana War Veterans Home in Bossier City. He had been in failing health for several years. He was born March 24, 1923 in Canbeal, Union Parish, LA, a son of Tom and Betty McDougle. He graduated from Farmerville High School in 1940 where he lettered in boxing and baseball. He joined the U.S. Navy during World War II and served as a Gunners' Mate 3rd Class in the Pacific Theater aboard the Fletcher class destroyer, USS Kimberly DD521. He was aboard the Kimberly when it was struck by a Japanese kamikaze plane on March 26, 1945 off the coast of Okinawa. After returning to Pearl Harbor for repair, the Kimberly sailed to Tokyo Bay where it was anchored during the signing of the Japanese instrument of Surrender on the USS Missouri September 2, 1945. Afterwards, the Kimberly escorted the Missouri back to the states. After the war, he returned to Northeast Louisiana and worked for the Thermatomic Carbon Plant in Sterlington until 1951 when he began working for Southern Natural Gas. He worked at the SNG pumping station in Perryville until 1976 when he was transferred to the Bienville station and he and his wife moved to Simsboro. He worked at the Bienville station until his retirement in 1985. Following his retirement, he enjoyed spending time in his welding shop and mowing his lawn and he was an avid newspaper reader. He married Barbara Jean Nolan April 8, 1949 and she preceded him in death July 4, 2002. His survivors include two sons, Kenny McDougle of Pittsburg, KS and Jim McDougle of Coppell, TX; two grandsons, Sean McDougle and Evan McDougle of Lubbock, TX; two sisters, Nelwyn Dean of Bunkie, LA and Patty Sue Ramsey of Glasgow, MT; and a brother, Billie McDougle of Sterlington, LA. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ogilva. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday at the Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, LA. Officiating the services will be Rev. Wilton Wall. Burial will follow in the Simsboro Cemetery. Memorials Contribution's can be made to the Northwest Louisiana War Veterans Home in Bossier City, LA.
